70p bathroom essential removes ‘stubborn stains’ from tile grout, claims expert

Daily Express tries out hack to clean tile grout

There are many reasons why grout turns yellow and discoloured, from soap scum to hard water, cleaning techniques and food stains.

Some water supplies can also turn grout yellow and discoloured because they contain iron which can deposit minerals on the grout.

The minerals in hard water can actually penetrate the layers of cement in grout which can cause discolouration.

With this in mind, cleaning expert Sarah Dempsey from MyJobQuote.co.uk has shared how to clean tile grout using a simple 70p method.

The cleaning expert said the hack removes “stubborn” marks from “heavily stained grout”.

She explained: “If you have stubborn stains on your tile grout, bleach is the best option.

“However, avoid cleaning your tile grout with bleach regularly, as it can start to discolour the grout.

“Instead, reserve bleach for heavily stained grout. When cleaning with bleach, make sure you keep the room ventilated.

“Simply pour some bleach into a small container and dip an old toothbrush into it.

“Then, scrub the grout with the bleachy toothbrush.

“Keep dipping the toothbrush in the bleach every now and again to ensure you’re getting good coverage.

“You may want to lay an old towel underneath, as bleach can stain your carpets or other surfaces. Also, be sure to wear gloves and old clothing.”

Bleach can be bought online or from most local supermarkets.
