I'm an iPhone expert – three mind-blowing tricks that everyone should know

A GADGET whiz has shared three seriously clever iPhone hacks – including some real Harry Potter spells.

Your iPhone is packed with features, and many of them are hidden away.

But you'll get much better use out of your posh iPhone if you learn some extra tricks.

This latest batch was shared by gadget expert Niels van Straaten, who regularly shares iPhone hacks on TikTok as @appledsign.

Harry Potter iPhone spell

Your iPhone borrows a bunch of Siri commands from the Harry Potter universe.

And one of them turns the iPhone's flashlight on.

Fans will remember the spell "Lumos" – which in the Harry Potter universe lights the end of a witch or wizards wand.

It allows characters to see in the dark and was used by Potter himself in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince".

You can cast the spell yourself back in the world of muggles by activating Siri on an iPhone and saying "Lumos" to turn your gadget's flashlight on.

Lumos is not the only spell that works on iPhone.

Activating Siri and saying "Nox", the wand-extinguishing charm, will turn the torch off.

Avoid text spam

If you're a regular iPhone user, you'll probably find that your Messages app is easily clogged up.

Often it'll fill up with spam texts or verification code messages.

These texts can sometimes make it difficult to find important conversations.

Thankfully, there's an Apple feature that lets you filter out texts from Unknown Senders.

It won't block them (so you'll still receive them), but it makes your iPhone inbox much tidier.

First, make sure your iPhone is updated to the latest software.

Go to Settings > General > Software Update to check.

Then open Settings again and then choose Messages.

Scroll down and turn in Filter Unknown Senders under Message Filtering.

So how do you activate the filters?

Go to the Messages app, and choose Filters in the top-left corner.

Then you'll see that your Messages are split.

You'll have filters for All Messages, Known Senders and Unknown Senders.

So if you want the tidiest inbox, it's probably best to leave messages filtered by Known Senders.

Ringer and alerts volume

Is your iPhone alarm always too loud? There's a way to fix it.

If you've ever tried to reduce alarm noise with the volume down button, you'll have noticed a big issue.

When you do that, it actually just snoozes the alarm.

So shortly after (and every day) you'll be awoken by the same overly-loud alarm noise.

But there's an easy way to fix it.

First, head into Settings > Sound & Haptics.

Then look under Ring and Alerts for a slider.

You can drag this slider left or right to set the volume.

As you drag the slider, an alert will sound so that you can hear how it changes.

But you can also turn on Change With Buttons in the same menu.

This will finally allow you to use your volume buttons on the iPhone to change alarm volume.

Of course, that means volume-down will no longer snooze the alarm.

But you can still temporarily silence an iPhone alarm by tapping the big Snooze button that appears on your home screen anyway.
